This paper, which presented at the EARCOME5 in Tokyo, clarifies the history and origin of Japanese lesson study.
Introduced in the late 19th century, two types of public lessons known as “object lesson” and “criticism lesson” became very popular in teacher training. These teacher training approaches transformed into what we now know today as the practice of lesson study.
